Cushings disease is a condition caused by too high of an amount of cortisol, creating a hormonal imbalance. It is relatively rare disease that affects ten out of every one million people. It is most common in adults between the ages of 20 to 50 years old. Because co

rtisol is involved in many body functions that maintain homeostasis and reverse the stress response, too much of this hormone can lead to many different symptoms (including all and more of what Karl has been going through). Cushings disease is a cause of Cushing's Syndrome characterised by increased secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) from the anterior pituitary. This is most often as a result of a pituitary adenoma (tumor).

Treatment of a pituitary adenoma usually involves removal of the tumor via transphenoidal surgery (Surgery to the brain through the nasal cavity of the skull). Karl will be having this surgery very soon.

A brain tumor was discovered in my brother Karl in May of this year. He has been battling many medical conditions (diabetes, anxiety, blood pressure, seizures and mild strokes and heart attacks) and was recently diagnosed with Cushings disease.

At this time, he is unable to work, unable to walk without assistance and cannot survive through this without many medications.

I have decided to host a benefit to help raise money to cover medical bills and living expenses so that Karl doesn't have to worry about those things so that he can make a full recovery after the brain surgery.
